Change of Heart,
Thoughts on Pres Hinkley's 10 virtues and SA's 12 steps
*note: read the 3 verses accross before reading the next set of 3.

    prologue
A change of heart 1 from self to God.
the basis of 12 steps and
    God's divine path of repentance.
    a sexaholic meditates.
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
1c - read the 3 verses above first
love is not lust it's so much more
    than the selfish medication
    of taking instead of giving.
    Respecting her is not lust.
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    2b
So we lie to the clergy.
As we tell lies to ourselves.
    We are only like others.
    We embrace normal urges.
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    2e
We are all children of God,
    loved by Heavenly Father.
Special gifts can come from Him
We don't really need our fix
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    4a - civility
    Helping others is step twelve.
    Once we can finally learn
    as God gives us sobriety
    enabling freedom from lust.
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    5b
When we turn to our Savior
We begin to learn to feel.
Feelings bring hurts to escape from.
    Can lust medicate our pain?
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    6b
    We're addicted to resentment.
Mercy's hard, we deserve to hate.
We don't know how to forgive.
We can be taught if honest.
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    8a - gratitude
“Surely God could not love me,”
    was our agonizing cry;
    But that was another untruth.
When Humble, we feel Christ's love.
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    9a - optimism
    Why is admitting helplessness
Our own first step to healing?
    Are humble and shame different?
We're not sure we have the answers,
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    9d
    Looking for good in ourselves;
Looking for good in our neighbors.
Looking for good in this great land.
Looking for good in our world.
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    10c
    God's reality for us.
    This is alive and healing,
    as no used fantasy world
from our secret past ever could.
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    ----------------------------------------------
    1. Alma 5:26 & sexaholics anonymous p 54 & 80
    2. I chose plural "we" rather than singular
    "I" reluctantly.
    3. From President Hinkley's book as I relook
at it I see that I had to insert 12 step values.
The important things in life are not associated
with my addiction. Even what I thought did
doesn't. Love is not lust. In fact lust kills love.

1a - love
Love we 2 selfishly polute.
lusting after the big fix,
our selfish fantasy world.
We are lost inside ourselves.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
1d
By truly loving our spouse,
we learn godly giving love,
love for all human beings,
and our Father in Heaven.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
2c
We are doing wrong, of course;
but only hurting ourselves.
Our lies we even believe
until awakened in Christ.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
3a - Morality
That which is missing in our lives
is only found in Christ's love.
Not in our fantasy world;
Not in Sex enjoyment's high,
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
4b
Once we are not slaves, His gift,
then we can give to others.
Only then can the real joy,
the happy giving, be real.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
5c
Gradually our hard hearts learn.
Then and only then we're able
To soften our hardened hearts.
Then we can allow Christ in.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
7a - thrift - industry
Pornography overwhelmed us.
We couldn't find time to do else.
We took money from families
to feed unquenchable lust.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
8b
We are grateful for the Savior's love.
How could we have ever believed
the lie, We must earn his help.
His love is unconditional.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
9b
but a humble servant, with faith,
can look for the good in life,
in others, and in themselves;
while in shame we dwell on our faults.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
10a - Faith
Our shame & self pity pull
Corrupting our needed faith.
It's important to separate
Humbly asking for belief.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
10d
Faith gives us the peace yearned for.
Prayer and meditation work,
where lust and fantasy failed.
Christ if we allow it, heals us.

1b
What godly traits on this earth
can mortals learn to embrace
learning love unselfishly
within the marriage cov'nant?
ll - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
2a -honesty
We chose our Lust addiction
It seems in part because we can
dishonestly hide secrets.
It is not smelled on our breath.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

2d
All, as addicts, we need to do
is turn in faith to our Savior.
Enough effort at honesty
Teaches even us the truth.
ll - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

3b
But we still cling to the lust.
False promises want no change.
It's a slow process to learn
To let go and let God live
ll - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

5a - learning
Many are educated.
Will knowing the mind save us?
intellectualize the fix,
but understanding won't heal.
ll - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

6a - forgiveness & mercy
Forgiving, step 8 and 1/2;
Somewhere between 8 and 9
Christ's love can teach us to love
Enough to let go and forgive
ll - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

7b
Spirit and body, bankrupt.
The money squandered on lust,
Time spent wasting God's gifts
we could lose from lack of use.
ll - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

8c
We're thankful for so much more;
for family, friends, and 12 steps;
for Christ's atoning sacrifice
A recov'ring sexaholic.
ll - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

9c
If we look for God's will for us
we behold great personal gifts.
Each person within has his own
Set of great unique Godly gifts.
ll - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

10b
Believing in Christ's power
to do for us what we cannot.
It is the faith that heals us,
Turning to his will, his service.
ll - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Prologue
I begin to see virtues as
So much more than searchings cast.
So much more expansive in scope
Than the addict's focus on hope.
My most important poems may be on
Topics not centered on my addiction. 3
