If I Submit I'm Free
a note to someone special

1
"I cannot accept" that you'll always be
as an addict, forever in bondage.
Words from a taskmaster who helps me.
I again hear this answering message.

3
This time I'm quite sure and I'm grateful
that all helpful people are not addicts.

5
There is no other way, but I fought it.
Each addict in the beginning clings
to the blind hope that they can one day say,
"I'm not an addict. I'll control my fling."

7
To non addicts this sounds like an excuse,
like not taking full responsibility.
They are positive thinkers who control,
by controlling their minds, their destiny.

9
The ways any "normal" person uses to guide
his life, fails us as slaves, as addicts.

11
Thus if we try to control it, we're lost.
We learn to listen to God's options.
Slowly he tells us as we learn lis'ning
to subtle whisp'rings of soft emotions.

13
Perhaps one day after resurrection.
In some way only God understands,.
A way only a God need understand.
I will of this perfect knowledge command.

15
What each needs to overcome is different
Tim's is the selfish hard heart of an addict.

17
I do not want your very real trials.
The pain and pleasure that are a light
in your life are why you are what you are.
I know even more that I want your insight

2
"She's not addicted!" my heart rejoices.
I'm not always sure, addicts can deny
their own addictions with these thoughts.
Addicts themselves can supply lies

4
If I submit I'm Free. This freedom
can only come when I can consider
the bondage of worshipping a false god
against submission to a true Higher Power

6
Through unconditional surrender to God
I am free, but I remain an addict.

8
They're right. Addicts still have these
areas of their lives they seem to control.
This fact only seems to help us lie about our
helplessness to trust our own roles

10
False Gods rule us. An addict is defeated
when he fights. Our addiction has power.
It has it's way. It takes over if we
fight it. It becomes stronger and stronger.

12
It sounds like contradiction, opposite paths
I don't expect agreement by non addicts .

14
I can then think as a "normal" person,
perfected by the trials of this life.
Trials that are not Joe's, or Fran's, or Dan's,
these are Tim's. We grow from our own strife

16
I wonder if you could be the great soul
you are without your own experiences.
Don't understand me. That's not what I want.
I am only more sure of your competence.

18
To get my message of God's Love
to more than just addicts
